1stclass@writing “Pirate Writing Crew” is a highly effective writing intervention programme which forms part of the Every Child Counts (ECC) suite of intervention programmes that target effective use of Pupil Premium funding. Pirate Writing Crew is aimed at children in Years 3 and 4 who have fallen behind in writing. Throughout the 3 sessions TAs will be trained in using the ready-made lesson plans, materials and resources so they can deliver high quality stimulating and motivating 40 minute lessons to a group of up to 4 children, 4 times a week. The children develop key skills of spelling, handwriting, grammar, and punctuation in order to complete daily writing tasks relating to the pirate adventure story. All resources and access to online materials and data analysis are included in the cost.

Aimed at: Teaching Assistants and HTLAs

Cost : £600 maintained schools, £650 Academies and Free Schools (per delegate)

Supporting Spelling across KS 1 and KS 2 - No Nonsense Spelling

This course will be based on the materials from No Nonsense Spelling and will provide delegates with information on implementing the scheme across the primary phase. It will include an overview of key spelling strategies and ideas for enhancing the teaching of spelling through games and investigations.  Schools will need to have purchased the No Nonsense spelling materials in advance of the session or can receive them at a reduced price as part of the course.

Project X Code - Reading Intervention Programme

Reading Intervention Programme for pupils in Year 2 upwards who have fallen behind in reading 

3 session course : Session 1 – 3rd Oct 17   9:30-11:45

                                 Session 2 – 14th Nov 17  9:30-11:45

                                 Session 3 – 24th Jan 18 9:30-11:45

This course will train TAs and HLTAs to deliver Project X CODE which is a highly successful reading intervention programme for pupils in Year 2 upwards who have fallen behind in reading. The intervention uses a highly motivational series of 3D adventure books, based on a structured progression of phonics, vocabulary and comprehension skills. TAs will be supported to use the Teaching and Assessment Handbooks in order to deliver reading intervention to a small group of children for half an hour, four times a week. Access to online resources, assessment materials and data analysis also included in the cost but schools will need to buy the Project X Code series of books.
