Early Years to Year 1 Transition: Supporting a Mastery Approach

 To support schools to embed a mastery approach for mathematics within Year 1 and smooth transition between Early Years and Key Stage 1 

This course consists of 3 half day sessions at the Sandhill Centre:

Tues 2nd May 2017 1-4pm - aimed at Early Years Leads, with a focus on concrete resources and problem solving and reasoning. 

Tues 4th july 1-4pm - aimed at teachers who will be working within Year 1 in the autumn term 2017/2018, with a focus on smoothing the transition from EY to Y1, planning for a mastery approach, concrete resources and problem solving and reasoning. 

Tues 26th Sept 1-4pm - aimed at teachers who are working within Year 1 in the autumn term 2017/2018, with a focus on embedding a mastery approach to mathematics. 

NOTE: Please note that when booking a place you must give the delegates name for each of               the 3 sessions in the notes box, Session 1 should be the EY lead or and EY teacher currently teaching Reception pupils, Session 2 and 3 should be the teacher teaching this cohort when they move into Y1 in September. 

Course Fees: £180 for LA/ Maintained schools & £270 for Academies/ Free Schools for the course (fees for all 3 sessions)

Apple Regional Training Centre - An introduction to iPad and Apple Teacher

Apple has recently launched an accreditation scheme called “Apple Teacher”

Apple Teacher is not just about how to use an iPad, although you do learn lots of useful tips and tricks, its about how to use it for teaching & learning. Not only will you gain badges to demonstrate your proficiency at using the various apps but you will gain ideas on how to use it with your learners too.

What you will learn:

  • How to sign up for Apple Teacher
  • How to access the content of the courses
  • How to access the learning materials in the book store
  • We will also explore the Keynote app to see how it could replace
  • Powerpoint in your classroom
  • How to gain your iPad badge

It’s suitable for: Any adults who want to use iPads for learning in schools

Resources Required: iPad and a personal Apple ID – You can create one here

If you are bringing your own iPad make sure you have Keynote installed. Keynote should be free of charge if your iPads were purchased after September 2012. If you need advice on how to get Keynote free let us know.

We have a small number of iPads available to use as part of the training if required. Please let us know before the event if you would like to borrow one.

Governor Training - BME/EAL

This session will be led by Rasheda Khatun, Lead & Manager of Appropriate Body for NQTs, EAL & BME.

It is for governors of primary and early years settings only.

This session will include an experiential activity to help governors understand ‘the EAL pupils world’ language and cultural differences/bias (vulnerable groups), defining BME and EAL in the UK (and the Sunderland Groups), inclusive practices, tracking progress and brief information about the ‘Ethnic Minority Achievement Service’.

This session is free to any school/academy that has subscribed to the Council's Governor Training and Development Service for the 2016/17 academic year.  For those governing boards which do not subscribe, the school/academy will be charged £80 per place.

The session will include raising awareness of issues surrounding young peoples’ access to technology, discuss the role of the school and consider policy and good practice.
