Apple has recently launched an accreditation scheme called “Apple Teacher”

Apple Teacher is not just about how to use an iPad, although you do learn lots of useful tips and tricks, its about how to use it for teaching & learning. Not only will you gain badges to demonstrate your proficiency at using the various apps but you will gain ideas on how to use it with your learners too.

What you will learn:

  • How to sign up for Apple Teacher
  • How to access the content of the courses
  • How to access the learning materials in the book store
  • We will also explore the Keynote app to see how it could replace
  • Powerpoint in your classroom
  • How to gain your iPad badge

It’s suitable for: Any adults who want to use iPads for learning in schools

Resources Required: iPad and a personal Apple ID – You can create one here

If you are bringing your own iPad make sure you have Keynote installed. Keynote should be free of charge if your iPads were purchased after September 2012. If you need advice on how to get Keynote free let us know.

We have a small number of iPads available to use as part of the training if required. Please let us know before the event if you would like to borrow one.

Mission Beamish iPad Day - Using a visit as a stimulus for creative storytelling in English

Beamish Museum on Friday, 23. June 2017 - 09:00

Beamish

Who is it aimed at?

The event is aimed at teachers who want to explore how they can use iPads creatively to support an educational visit. This year we have put an English spin on the activities to promote the use of a visit to inspire student writing.

Who should attend?

Anyone in schools that wants to explore the potential to use the iPads to support cross-curricular English activities. The day will also be of interest to schools who are considering devices and want to experience their potential for learning. There will be "missions" for KS1 & KS2 and you can select which one you are most interested in.

What will we be doing?

  • We'll meet at the museum entrance and, after a chance to have some refreshments, will take the bus into town.
  • After a short introduction half the group will explore the apps we are using for the day and the other half will learn how to use the Photos app to create 'of the era' photos. Great for if you like to bring your learners to Beamish dressed up. We will have full access to costumes and with the museum as a backdrop your pictures will look amazing.
  • The groups will swap over to the other activity
  • We'll then head out on a series of 'missions' around the museum. The missions are based around creative approaches to delivering the computing curriculum.

Including:

  • Recreating Pockerley Manor in an adventure game and using it to tell a story
  •  Learn five-shot storytelling and create a film to use as a stimulus for creative writing
  •  Using visual storytelling to recreate a story of life in a period of history (KS1)
  •  Creating collaborative non-fiction e-books
  •  How to produce a modern re-creation of a silent movie with your class
  •  Historic storytelling in English through e-puppetry (KS1)

Our missions require various levels of knowledge with the iPads and you will have the opportunity to select something appropriate to the age you teach and your familiarity with the apps and devices.

After lunch you will have the chance to exercise your creativity and collate some of the content you collected on your mission

The day will end with a chance to share your efforts

Be prepared to come back buzzing with ideas.

We will also explore how iTunes U can be used as a means of sharing resources and introduce you to the range of free courses on offer at Sunderland Regional Training Centre and via the Apple Teacher Programme.

Lunch and refreshments are provided and Bemish are offering a voucher for a free class activity for all schools that attend.

The event will run from 09:00-15:30 with the opportunity to explore the museum yourself afterward.

Costs for the event - As the event is funded by the Academia Group we are able to pass it on to you free of charge. All we ask is that you maybe purchase some apps to use on the day..

Places are initially limited to one person per school - If you would like any additional places we can put you on a waiting list before the event.

This is a repeat of a highly successful event we ran last year.
