What is the Local Offer?


The Local Offer is a statutory duty placed on all Local Authorities by the Department for Education.

It is a single place where families can access information about what services, advice and support is expected to be available in and around their local area. This information has to be across education, health and social care for children and young people who have SEN or are disabled, including those who do not have Education, Health and Care plans.

The information provided about the available provision should be clear, comprehensive, accessible and up to date and should include details of how to access the service.

Schools have additional duties under the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Schools must publish more detailed information about their arrangements for identifying, assessing and making provision for pupils with SEN and this is called the ‘SEN Information Report’ and has to be published on the school website. This information must also include information about the arrangements for the admission of disabled pupils, the steps taken to prevent disabled pupils from being treated less favourably than other pupils, the facilities provided to assist access for disabled pupils and the schools’ accessibility plans. The SEN Information Report should elaborate on the information provided in the Local Offer which identifies what services, advice and support is expected to be available in and around their local area.

The Local Offer currently contains a very brief record for every school within the authority. It will include information about any resourced provision within that particular school but will advise parents that further information about the school can be obtained from the SEN Information Report on the school’s own website. Wherever possible a link to the actual report will be included but where this has not been provided or found, a link to the main school website will be used.

Further to requests from the Secondary SENCOs in Sunderland and in partnership with Edge Hill University we have managed to arranged to run a Post Graduate Course for Specific Learning Difficulties in Gateshead with AMDA/ATS accreditation as needed.

 

This course will start in January 2017, it takes 18 months  and is open for registration NOW….Edge Hill will be opening it up to all the NE region so do get in and register.

  •         Join a specialist programme for professionals, accredited by the British Dyslexia Association;
  •         Develop the professional attributes, skills, knowledge and confidence to act as a specialist teacher for dyslexia in line with the current inclusion debate;
  •         Immerse yourself in a course strongly rooted in effective practice which focuses, through the actions of the teacher, on improving provision in settings for learners with specific learning difficulties dyslexia;
  •        Tailor the programme to match your needs and career aspirations – Primary, Secondary and Further/Higher Education options are available.

Tuition fees for students joining this programme are charged on a modular basis.

CPD4518 Identification and Intervention for Students with SpLD Dyslexia (AP) – £1,480 for study in academic year 2016/17, £1,510 for study in academic year 2017/18;

·         CPD4519 Specialist Dyslexia Training Work-Based Practice – £510 for study in academic year 2016/17, £520 for study in academic year 2017/18;

·         CPD4520 Theories and Dilemmas of Dyslexia – £510 for study in academic year 2016/17, £520 for study in academic year 2017/18.
