Additional Dell PCs for UK schools

Notice from Econocom:

Last year Econocom financed and reassigned all the Acer ICT from the Olympic Games to over 600 UK schools and charities.

Channel 4 news article on the project
http://www.channel4.com/news/olympic-technology-creates-legacy-for-education

In t
otal, nearly 16,000 items were reassigned. We still have a school waiting list for over 5,000 PCs from schools that missed out on the legacy of the Games.
As a result, we have managed to source 7,000 Dell PCs from our lease portfolio which will be available to purchase in early November.
The specification is below:

Dell Optiplex 780 Small Form Factor Desktop PC
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.60GHz, 4GB RAM, 160GB Disc

22 inch monitor with keyboard and mouse
Windows 7

The price is the same as for the Olympic ICT at £149 +VAT per system. The minimum order size is 15 units. We will be opening the waiting list on September 1st.

The Olympic PCs sold out in 4 weeks (10,000 units) so we expect there will be a similar interest in this equipment. For those of you on Twitter, I will be tweeting regular updates on the project over the next couple of months (@chrislabrey)

If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Kind Regards

New site for parents puts your school data in the spotlight

schoolsguideSchoolsguide.co.uk is a new website launched in May that allows parents to compare schools in your area. The TripAdvisor style site brings key school statistics together in one place from several official websites including the Department of Education and Ofsted making it quick and easy for parents to choose the best school for their child.

Using School Guide parents can:

• Find any school in England with its interactive search

• See current data in a clear visual format on each School Page

• Compare local schools at the touch of a button

• Get a School Guide Rating to see how a school ranks nationally

• Plot performance of a school in the School Guide League

Share knowledge on local schools by adding comments via Facebook or DISQUS

Bright, modern and simple to navigate, School Guide uses colour coding to show types of schools (Primary, Secondary and Independent) and gives each school a unique rating. We know that there are some schools who will be concerned by the fact that parents can openly comment about the school in such a public forum. Why not get ahead of the game by creatiing a prescence for your school on social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. We can give you advice on how to do it safely and how to you can react to negative comments that you may receive.

School Guide has been shortlisted for a Nominet Award in the Digital Innovation in Public Services category.

Are you thinking about using mobile devices in your school?

rthinkingA number of schools are considering purchasing mobile devices, many wanting the opportunity to evaluate the device before committing to a bulk purchase.

In response to this, we are excited to announce a new CPD for day for teachers offering you the chance to evaluate their potential.

The Learning Technologies and Innovation Team are partnering with AT computers, Apple Solutions Experts for Education, to offer you the opportunity to take part in an iPad experience day.

The aim of the day is to give you everything you need to run a successful trial of mobile technology in your classroom. As well as receiving training, you will also be equipped with an iPad and a set of essential apps to get you started. We have an Apple Distinguished Educator on hand to give you practical ideas on how to implement them in your classroom as well as members of the Learning Technologies Innovation Team to advise you on exciting projects already running in Sunderland schools.

Anti-Bullying Song - The Karaoke Version

We are proud to launch our new Sunderland Anti-Bullyng Song. The song was the winning entry by Ellie Rodwell from Academy 360 in the competition organised by the Anti-Bullying team. Ellie's words have been turned into a song that we're sure you will enjoy learning and singing.

Hopefully this new karaoke version will help you to learn the song so you can sing it with your class in school. It would be great if you could record your perfomance and send it to us. Once you have learned the words you may find the mp3 version useful too. Especially if you want to perform the song in front of an audience. The song was written so that the Cyber Bullying verse can be sung over the final chorus so why not give that a try too.

Here are links to allow you to download the song to use in school.
